The exquisite and upscale Park Plaza Hotel was seismically
upgraded to the codes of UBC 1997. 3-D Analysis was performed to
determine proper shear wall strengths and locations using ETABS 2000.
X-Rays were used to determine existing rebar usage and sizes in
existing walls such that new shear walls could be properly designed
for the building.
One of the key challenges in this project was to seismically
upgrade the structure and strengthen and/or add shear walls to bring
it up to current code requirements without architecturally amending
the historical structure..
