The
structure at 901 South Broadway was rezoned from a business
structure to a residential structure. To do this, its seismic
tolerances had to be completely assessed and upgraded to the
current standards for the conversion to a residential structure.
This was done through field
analysis on the un-reinforced masonry infills to evaluate current
material properties of these shear resisting elements. Then,
through non-linear analysis of the infills using FEM-II software,
proper equivalent bracings members where determined to use in
analysis of the structure using ETABS CAD software. The building
was then strengthened by using new shear walls as determined by the
modeling software
