After the 1996 Northridge earthquake, this 4 story commercial
building located in Beverly Hills required extensive seismic
retrofitting. The ultimate solution included wrapping a steel frame
around the exterior or the entire building. Three dimension computer
programs were utilized in the design, allowing for photo-realistic
visualization and the precise placement of attachments.
Actual work on the project was restricted by the city to the hours
of 6 PM to 10 PM. Taking this into consideration, the design assured
that all tasks could be completed within these short working hours.
Due to the novelty of the design solution, the owner of the
property required a peer review of the design.
